About me

Portrait of Alxandr Kane York
Howdy! As you can probably guess, I'm Alxandr (and yes this is spelled correctly) Kane York, a Neuroscience Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Michigan in the Jonides Lab. My research centers around cognitive control, that integral ability to focus one's attention on a given moment or task. My methods include behavioural measurements (psychophysics), eye tracking, EMG, and computational modeling.

I completed my B.A. in Psychology at the University of Central Arkansas in 2019 and am on track to complete my Ph.D. within the next year. I am looking to transition into a role that leverages my expertise in human cognition (e.g., human factors) or involves working with data. The specific job title is less important than the opportunity to apply my skills meaningfully. My training as a neuroscientist has equipped me with experience in various data science and statistical methods, ranging from basic hypothesis testing to hierarchical Bayesian modeling. I have also developed expertise in human attention and decision-making. Beyond academics, I have collaborated on projects using machine learning to predict D&D combat success and analyzing factors that predict depression, allowing me to explore applications outside my primary field.
